Social Impact Storytelling: Why Media that Changes Minds and Behaviors Matters

Suhad Babaa, Just Vision

The use of visual storytelling is nearly ubiquitous across industries invested in advancing social change. Still, understanding how to construct a narrative and outreach strategy that effectively changes the way people think and act is more elusive. This keynote will focus on the intersection of media and social impact, looking at why stories matter and how compelling stories coupled with strategic engagement campaigns can shift people’s perceptions and also inspire audiences to action. The talk will be led by Suhad Babaa, the Executive Director of Just Vision, an organization dedicated to increasing media coverage and support for Palestinian and Israeli grassroots leaders working to end the occupation and build a future of freedom, dignity and equality in the region. Drawing on more than 12 years of Just Vision’s learnings in social impact media production, Suhad will offer specific case studies based on Just Vision's experiences in the field, scientific research conducted by cognitive neuroscientists at MIT and tools that can support anyone looking to make strategic interventions through storytelling.
